If you’re a sports lover, spring time is pretty great. NBA basketball is in it’s prime, march madness takes over most of your days, and golf has finally reached it’s season. That means you get to watch legends, upsets, and the best golfers in the world dominate the sport. Not only that, but we look forward to watching one of the best and most popular tournaments of the year.

With that comes a few things. Excitement, definitely. But we get to celebrate more than just watching TV; these few months bring some of the best weather we have in Texas. That means we have the opportunity to get outside (before it’s 105 degrees) and do some of the things we love. Whether that’s walking your dog or playing 18, springtime is truly one of the best times of the year, so we encourage you to get outside and do something you love!

That being said, one of the best excuses to sit in front of your TV or computer for four days straight is the masters. With the “anticipation” commercials starting in January, it’s hard to miss the excitement for a great tournament. What to expect? You can never really know. Who would have guessed last year's outcome? Here are a few things to look out for heading into Masters week.

No Tiger Woods?

The last time we saw Tiger, he was pulling out of the Dubai Desert Classic in early February due to back spasms. We haven’t heard much since then, but we do know that he is officially out of the Masters.

As for Augusta, you can bet he’ll be there - but not in the way that he hopes. He’ll go to the champions dinner along with other festivities that come with the Masters, but he won’t be competing. What does this mean for the future? Well, we have been trying to figure that out for a couple of years now. But for now, we’ll resort back to hearing “I’m just trying to get healthy” from Tiger for the next few months.

How does Jordan Spieth come back from last year?

The whole world felt for Jordan Spieth on sunday of the Masters in 2016. How will he bounce back this year? Needless to say, much of the attention will be on him as he tries to win his second green jacket. There is no doubt that Spieth is still one of the best in the world, but can he get off to the hot start he had in 2015 with a win at the Masters?

Note: Spieth has played in the Masters three times. How did he do?

T2.
WON.
T2.

Not too bad, huh? Seems likes Augusta likes Jordan.

Will Rory McIlroy get the grand slam?

Maybe one of the more overlooked stories now, Rory McIlroy has the chance to claim the grand slam with a win at the Masters this year. Due to injury, he didn’t get to play in some of the year’s earlier tournaments. However, he came back ready to play.

In just four tournaments, he has three top-10's and two top-5's. Rory's on top of his game and has a good chance to come to Augusta and dominate.

Dustin Johnson is on fire

DJ won all three of his last starts, and is holding the #1 spot in the world like it’s no competition. He hits it long, he’s accurate, but does he have the game to win at Augusta? He’s a clear favorite to be in contention and nobody would be surprised if he was wearing the green jacket at the end of the week.

Justin Thomas - a good start

Justin Thomas had one of the best starts of the season, winning both tournaments in Hawaii and adding a lump sum to his bank account. What has he done since then?

He's got a scoring average of 69 thus far and has moved into the 7th spot in the OWGR. Just this season, he has 3 wins and 5 top-10's, meaning he definitely shouldn't be overlooked when it comes to the Masters.

The unofficial start of golf season

With the Masters comes April, and with April comes Spring. For some, it’s a mild winter where you might be able to play a round or two. For others, they have been waiting months on end to get back on the golf course. No matter where you are, this time of the year is one of the best times when it comes to playing golf.

Golf North Texas exists to help you play more golf for less money. A membership to Golf North Texas costs only $4.99/month, and with that you get discounted tee times with no booking fees. With those discounts, your membership pays for itself in only one or two rounds.

What is a Golf North Texas membership? We want to help you understand more about what we offer and why our plans are beneficial for you. You might know that our memberships get you good deals on playing golf while also helping local courses...but what else? We’re working to create an environment where golf courses are in control. They give you the best rates they have to offer while also providing you with great course conditions and a positive overall experience. How can we achieve that? That’s where you come in - the core of Golf North Texas is our membership base.

Take a read through and learn about what comes with a membership and why we think it’s right for you!

What do I need to know?

A membership with Golf North Texas is only $4.99 per month. That’s it! No catch, no extra fees, just $4.99.

All of our plans work on a month-to-month basis, meaning that you don't have to worry about a long-term commitment. You'll be billed monthly from the day you sign up and you are able to cancel anytime. Starting the day you join, you'll receive all of the benefits that a membership offers - including discounted tee times and waived booking fees.

What are the benefits?

To start, becoming a member of Golf North Texas gives you access to discounted prices that our partner courses offer - rates not offered to guests. These rates can save you anywhere from 10-50%, depending on when and where you’re looking to play. You might ask, "Does that make the membership worth the money?" Absolutely - 100%. Just by booking one round, you can earn that money back and start saving from there.

Second, we waive booking fees for members of Golf North Texas. There is nothing worse than booking a tee time for your foursome and getting hit with booking fees that cost half as much as your round did. With a Golf North Texas membership, you can say goodbye to booking fees. It’s as simple as that.

With fees averaging around $2.50 per person, your $4.99 membership to Golf North Texas is already worth it when your fees are waived.

Supporting your local courses

While deals and discounts are great, Golf North Texas serves as more than that. We have made it our mission to give power back to the golf courses. Have you ever wondered how your favorite courses can offer you deals on third party sites for up to 85% off of the original price? Well, they can’t.

When you book a tee time at an absurdly low price, you can believe that the course did not offer you that rate, a company that trades tee times for a spot on their website did. If you want to know more about these companies and the effect they have on the game, go take a look at our last post.

At Golf North Texas, our courses retain 100% ownership of all of their tee times, meaning that they make the decisions on pricing and timing. Why is this good for you, the golfer? For one, the courses still want to offer you great deals!

A golf course is nothing without it’s customers, and most local courses want to reward their loyal golfers with incentives to keep coming. With a Golf North Texas membership, you get just that. The best deals that our courses have to offer, and the peace of mind knowing that you are supporting your favorite local golf courses, not some company in California actually causing harm to the golf industry.

Supporting junior golf

At Golf North Texas, we firmly believe that supporting the younger generation of golfers is one of the biggest factors in growing the game.

We donate 10% of all of our revenue to local junior programs. We are partnered with the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation to make sure that we are leaving our mark on not only young golfers, but the future of the game as well.

All of this to say, a membership with Golf North Texas is one of the best ways for golfers in the north Texas area to get more involved with their favorite local courses while also getting great deals and discounts.

We’d love to have you as a member...head over to our website now to get started! As always, shoot us a message if you have any questions and we’d be more than glad to walk you through our memberships and all that’s included.

Golf North Texas was created to be a place where golfers in north Texas can go to book tee times to their favorite courses. It might seem like we are doing the same thing as so many other companies...so why would you choose us to book your next round?

Golf North Texas works differently than other major tee-time reservation sites. Companies like Golfnow, TeeOff, and Golf18 Network rely on “trade times” to provide you with discounted rounds of golf. However, when courses trade these tee times to get on a certain website, they lose control of what they once owned.

How do trade times affect me?

When golf courses lose ownership of their “inventory” (tee times), this leads to rounds of golf being discounted to the point of no return, leaving the actual golf course with lost profits. How does this affect you, the golfer? Well, when golf rounds are sold at an 85% discount, your local courses aren’t making enough revenue to support the conditions of the course and the clubhouse. That means that your favorite courses will soon lose their quality and won’t be able to provide you with a good experience. When you have a bad experience at a certain course, there is a good chance you’re not coming back to play again. If this happens over and over again with customers that used to be loyal to certain courses, the impact broadens and the course can hardly sustain itself, leading to the possibility of closing down.

This might seem like an exaggeration, but multiple courses in the north Texas area have actually had this happen. Major companies that “trade” local tee times for a spot on their website are taking millions of dollars out of the Dallas/Fort Worth market alone. And if we don’t find a better solution, more and more of our favorite courses will end up closing down - sooner rather than later. Golf North Texas exists to make a difference and help solve this problem.

How Golf North Texas is different

When courses partner with Golf North Texas, they understand that they are going to retain complete control of their tee times. We provide value to our courses without taking anything from them. This allows them to decide what to offer their loyal golfers as incentives to play. These incentives usually take shape in the form of discounts, which is great for golfers everywhere. However, these discounts are only available if you join as a member of Golf North Texas. For only $4.99/month, you gain access to the best deals that our golf courses have to offer. Whether you play once a week or once every two months, becoming a member of Golf North Texas is worth it after only one or two rounds.

Not only will you find great deals, but you will also be exempt from booking fees. There is nothing worse than booking a tee time for your foursome and racking up more fees than the round costs itself. Members of Golf North Texas don’t worry about paying online fees - making our memberships even more worth the small price.

All of this adds up to our courses being supported in a way that no other company offers, while also still getting you great deals. What’s more to want? Instead of paying booking fees and using websites that cause harm to your local courses, go local. Go Golf North Texas. We’re excited to have you join us!

With the help of our local courses and golfers, we are hoping to make a difference in solving a major problem. With that, we want to do everything we can to get the word out. We love the game of golf and know you do as well - share our posts and pages with your friends to let more people know about Golf North Texas and what we have going on!

Send us a message if you have any questions - we’d love to walk you through the benefits of getting your membership and how we are working to help local golf courses in north Texas.

In the “Our Courses” series, we wanted to give members and followers of Golf North Texas some insight to the courses we partner with. Without our courses, we can’t give golfers in north Texas the opportunity to find great rates while supporting local courses and junior golf.

Read on, and let us know about the rounds you play at our partner courses!

Meadowbrook Golf Course

Meadowbrook is located in Arlington, TX, about 10-15 minutes outside of downtown, Fort Worth. Built and designed in 1922 by John Bredemus, this course has been around for awhile and has been a favorite local course for golfers in the metroplex.

Standing at 6,262 yards in length, it’s not the longest course but tests the golfers ability to place his or her shots. There aren’t many blind shots, but there are plenty of long, narrow fairways. It’s a good test for golfers of all experience, whether you have been playing for 40 years or are just learning the game.

Oeste Ranch Golf Course

Oeste Ranch has recently gotten a makeover and moved on from the name of Crown Valley, but has made great changes and might be in the best shape the course has seen. Course Pro Ben Kern has been active in turning the course around and is a great resource for people wanting to improve their game or work on the fundamentals.

Located in Weatherford, it’s about 20 minutes west of downtown Fort Worth. At 7,242 yards in length, it’s a decently long course with a par of 72. No matter your skill level, Oeste Ranch is going to be a treat for all golfers. With good conditions, good pace of play, and a great staff, Oeste Ranch is a perfect destination for golfers wanting to play any time of the week.

Sherrill Park Golf Course

Sherrill Park is an old-school course in Richardson, about 15 minutes north of downtown Dallas. Composed of two 18-hole courses, the first course came in the early 1970’s while the second a few years later with the growth of north Dallas.

The #1 course is noticeable longer than the #2 course, but they both have plenty of creeks and trees to make up for any distance players might miss. The courses are a top pick for local players wanting to go out during the week or first thing on the weekends.

The first course measures 6,509 yards in length and is a par 72 with Bermuda greens and fairways. The #2 course is 6,375 yards in length, par 72, and also has Bermuda greens and fairways. Both courses can be a learning ground for new players but can also be challenging for regulars.

Sugartree Golf Club

Sugartree golf club is known as a hidden gem to most. Located in Lipan, TX, Sugartree requires some driving for most people in the metroplex but will be much worth the experience they get out of it.

Known for incredible course conditions and having a great staff, Sugartree should be on everyone’s list. There are tight fairways, small greens, trees and creeks, and will give most golfers a good challenge of a round. It’s 6,659 yards in length, par 70, and a great place for golfers to go to experience quality, challenging golf.

Tierra Verde Golf Club

Tierre Verde is another Arlington golf course known by many as one of the nicest municipal courses around. Located about 20 minutes southeast of downtown Fort Worth, Tierre Verde is another course known for having great course conditions during most of the year in Texas.

The course is 6,795 yards in length and a par 72, designed in 1998 by Gary Pankins. When you get a membership with Golf North Texas, you can find rates between $40-$50 depending on the day. Tierre Verde is a great destination for golfers in the metroplex!

Waterchase Golf Club

Waterchase is located about 25 minutes east of downtown Fort Worth, and about 30 minutes from downtown Dallas. Right in the middle of the metroplex, Waterchase is a favorite for golfers looking for high-quality golf with good conditions.

Standing at 7,289 yards in length, Waterchase has everything that golfers would want in a good golf course. Trees play a part in most holes, along with sand traps and creeks. Waterchase is friendly for all levels, but will give most golfers a good challenge of their game.

Golf North Texas

All of our featured courses can be found on our website, golfnorthtexas.com. Go get your membership to find the best rates for your favorite courses without have to worry about booking fees!

The Courses at Watters Creek

The Courses at Watters Creek is located in Plano, TX, and is about 30 minutes north of Downtown Dallas. The club consists of three different courses: The Traditions Course (Par 72, 7,015 yards), an 18-hole, newly redesigned course with 419 Bermuda grass tee boxes and mini verde greens; The Player’s Course, a 9-hole course complimentary to the Future’s Course, a 6-hole short course designed for beginners to learn the game or for people want to practice their game from 100 yards in.

The Courses at Watters Creek are great for players of any level. With three courses, they offer options that not many other courses can offer.

The Golf Club of Dallas

The Golf Club of Dallas is located less than 15 minutes south of Downtown Dallas, and used to be known as the Oak Cliff Country Club. It’s a 6,719 yard, par 70, with small greens and plenty of sand traps/water hazards.

A Perry Maxwell design, this course can be challenging and fun at the same time. People of all different skill levels can enjoy what The Golf Club of Dallas has to offer while also learning from their experience.

This is an old course, but has been taken care of nicely in recent years and has the amenities that you would expect of a country club.

Hidden Creek Golf Course

Located about 15 minutes south of Fort Worth, Hidden Creek Golf Course is in the suburbs of Burleson, Texas. Hidden Creek is a par 72, and measures 7,024 yards in distance. It’s been noted “The toughest public golf course” in Dallas/Fort Worth. Dallas Business Journal also voted Hidden Creek as one of the “top five courses in the state.” Green fees range from $20-$50 depending on the day and season.

Not hard to find but a challenge for all players, Hidden Creek is consistently known as one of the best values in the metroplex.

Lake Arlington Golf Course

Lake Arlington is a city-owned, municipal course that has been around for a long time. Built in 1963, Lake Arlington is one of the oldest courses in the Fort Worth area. It’s 6,637 yards in length, par 71, and has Bermuda fairways and greens.

We hope Golf North Texas will be many things for golfers, but primarily a website for people to book tee times for a great price in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Speaking for everyone involved in Golf North Texas, we love golf. We want to encourage people to learn, to play, and to enjoy everything the game has to offer.

Golf North Texas hopes to make the game of golf more accessible and more affordable for people all over North Texas. We are partnered with a number of courses in Dallas/Fort Worth, giving you the opportunity to play both courses that you are familiar with and possibly some that you are not.

How does this work?

Golf North Texas is a place where you can book tee times for courses all over the D/FW area. Our hope is that Golf North Texas will be the first place you go when you are looking to book a tee time. We have created a place where local course operators give you the best deals they have to offer – tee times that they fully own.

Many people are familiar with third party tee-time booking sites, such as Golfnow or Golf18 Network. The difference between Golf North Texas and those other sites is the fact that Golf North Texas allows all of our golf courses to keep complete ownership of the tee times we offer. With other sites, tee times are “traded”, meaning that golf courses give up ownership of those tee times and have no control over the pricing. This loss of control leads to major price discounts that actually cost the course – sometimes even leading to the course closing down.

We do the opposite – we allow courses to keep full ownership of their tee times while still offering you the best deals. This allows our courses to continuously improve the course, offering you a better experience.

There are two ways to fully enjoy everything Golf North Texas has to offer.

Golf North Texas Membership

For $9.99/month, a Golf North Texas membership provides you with the following:

• Member-only pricing

• No booking fees

• Unlimited bookings

• Fast and easy tee-time reservations

• Support local Junior Golf

Getting a monthly membership with Golf North Texas is the best way to book your tee times. When you sign up, you are getting the best deals the courses have to offer without having to pay booking fees. There is no limit to how many tee times you can book, and all transactions are quick and easy.

No matter what level golfer you are, a Golf North Texas membership is the best place to find great deals without the hassle of booking fees. Not only are you getting a great deal, but you are also supporting your local courses and local Junior Golf programs.

By booking your tee times with Golf North Texas, you are allowing your favorite golf courses to condition the course and make renovations. Without your support, golf courses can’t provide you with great conditions and updated amenities. We make sure that our courses get your support so that they can continue to provide you with a great experience.

We also donate 10% of our profits to the North Texas Section of the PGA Junior Golf Foundation to support local Junior Golf. Young golfers are the next generation of the game and we hope to do everything in our power to support what the North Texas PGA is doing with junior golfers.

Simply booking tee times

The second way to book tee times on Golf North Texas is to simply create an account, find the course you want to play, and book your tee time online. This process requires a booking fee of $2.49 for every tee time you book, but is as quick and easy as the process of getting a monthly membership.

Whichever way you choose to book your next round of golf, we strive to give you great deals and to make the process as easy as possible.

Every year, more and more golf courses are closing down because they don’t have the resources to fund the requirements of their golf courses. We are on a mission to support local courses, starting right here in North Texas. But just like those courses, we need your support to make it happen – go online to book your tee time now!

Thanks for visiting the new GolfNorthTexas.com blog. Our goal with this blog is to create a community for North Texans who love golf and want to support their local golf community. Our community support will focus on locally owned courses and local golf programs like the Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour.

Most of you have your 3-5 courses that you play 90% of the time and are probably on a first name basis with the staff. You surely want these courses to succeed and stay in great shape year round. Unfortunately, many of these courses are struggling to make ends meet right now. There are many factors as to why, but a large reason is the influx of online tee time providers that sell times the courses no longer own. Ever book a tee time at 80% off? That tee time was most likely not owned by the course you played that day and the course received $0 in revenue for your round. These online operators pretend to be a partner to courses, but in reality increase competition and reduce the average rate courses receive.

I know what some of might be thinking, "I'm ok with that. Why would I want to pay more for golf?" If that is what you are thinking, then you must also ask yourself if you expect excellent course conditions, a reasonable pace of play and a well trained professional staff. Because if you do, a $10 tee time is not in line with those expectations. While paying $10 for a tee time might sound nice, this is really a short term game. No course can survive on those rates and sooner or later, your favorite course will begin to deteriorate or close the doors. Nobody wants that.

What our local community needs is a place for golf course operators to offer golfers competitive, yet fair prices for their course. Golfers will know they are getting a good deal and supporting their favorite course at the same time.

We have launched www.golfnorthtexas.com to do just that. 100% of our tee times are owned by the courses and they control all the pricing listed. Every time book supports not only the course, but also the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation. Golf North Texas donates 10% of our revenues to the foundation in hopes of supporting the next generation.

I will use this blog to have an open conversation about the game we all love and local community that needs your support. And if I can help improve your game with some quick swing tips along the way, even better!

I want to know what you think.
Do you agree/disagree with me?
What are we doing well/not doing well at?

I am excited to hear from you.

Thanks,
